"Solitude sometimes is best society." John Milton
The Years
We wanted to crash into life like into a wall Almost without breathing we practiced court dances we took the side view mirrors of cars apart we fell off from the horse’s back in canter the trauma ward’s doctors hate such things We got to swallow love to savor in the crowd’s applause when Anna published a novel the publisher groaned never before had parties been so expensive We studied the relationship between body and soul carefully You said: always pack lightly if you get a prescription for codeine painkillers put a few aside in case you break someone’s heart it will hurt your own
